Neuro Ophthalmology

Our Neuro-Ophthalmology department specializes in diagnosing and managing neurological conditions that affect the eyes, as well as providing critical ocular cues to aid in the diagnosis of various neurological diseases. We work in close coordination with neurologists, interventional radiologists, and neurosurgeons, enabling a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment.

Neurological conditions affecting the eyes:

  • Optic neuritis
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Idiopathic intracranial hypertension
  • Cranial nerve palsies
  • Stroke-related vision loss
  • Brain tumors affecting vision

In order to design your treatment, one or more of these specialized tests can be done.

  • Orthoptic assessment
  • Assessment of eye movements
  • Diplopia’s charting
  • Screening of neural visual fields
  • Optical coherence tomography of the optic nerve head
  • Color vision and contrast sensitivity evaluation
  • Imaging tests such as MR venogram, MRI, and CT scan
  • Puncture of the lumbar region

Our department offers a range of treatment options for neurological eye conditions. Steroid therapy is utilized to manage inflammation and alleviate symptoms. Botulinum toxin injections are employed to manage eyelid spasms and other movement disorders. Prism lenses are prescribed to correct diplopia (double vision) and improve visual alignment. Our team also provides comprehensive low vision rehabilitation programs to enhance independence and quality of life for patients with visual impairments.
